About a year ago, while vacationing in sunny Arizona, I decided to take my first stab at creating an art journal from scratch. I had bought some large scrapbook paper (12 X 18) and thought it could be glued together for strength and folded in half to make a generously sized art journal. I spent the next several days of my holiday happily glueing pages together, and base coating them in all kinds of paint and using many different techniques to get cool textures for the backdrop to my future art journalling adventures.
I decided at that time that I would focus this art journal on making it a home for many little pieces of art I had created but that had never had a home of their own in a larger piece or that had not sold for whatever reason. So, you'll see lotsof little bits of art of mine that have been sitting around for a long time and now have a place of distinction in this journal. Secondly, I thought it would be a great chance to use up a bit of my huge stash of collage-y stuff. I vowed I would not introduce anything new to this journal, except techniques. Thirdly, I used many practice pieces that I had created in my various online art classes. It seemed a shame not to find a home for them too!
It is is now an eighteen page art journal (I had it mostly finished a few months ago and have already posted here and in my various Facebook art groups the first eight pages of it). Now here are pages nine through twelve, which I hope you'll enjoy. The last few pages will be posted here in a couple of days.
Be sure to connect with me if you have questions about the techniques or supplies I used. I often get asked where I get the stuff I use and my response is, "from everywhere." I have a huge collection of vintage images. I take apart old magazines, catalogues, discarded books, old office supplies and anything else I can get my hands on. It's just a matter of training your brain to look at things a bit differently and ask yourself if you could use those items in a new and interesting way in your art.
