Featured Artist - Ginny Markley "Playing With Paint"

Handmade Art Journal By Ginny Markley

Artist Trading Cards By Ginny Markley

The absolute BEST thing about joining online art communities is the wonderful friendships you make with other artists from all over the world.  I can't even begin to express how important these people are to me and how much I value having them in my life.

Case in point, my dear friend Ginny Markley.  We have never met in person.  She lives in Florida and I live in Western Canada.  While it is my heartfelt wish that we do meet one day, even if we don't she has a special place in my heart.  A talented, generous soul, Ginny has a terrific blog you may want to check out.  She offers tutorials of how she creates her wonderful work.  Here is the link:

Ginny recently surprised me with one of her wonderful handmade art journals, along with some of her fabulous ATCs (see photos above).  If you are interested in how she created the journal, here is the link to that tutorial:

And here is a link to her ATC work too:

It will be my absolute pleasure and honor to use this beautiful gift in which to create my art and I will think of my dear friend, Ginny, whenever I use it.

Cheers!

Happy Canada Day, friends!  To celebrate the holiday, I am tripling your chances to win my monthly CD collection giveaway.  Here's how it works.

You can win ONE OF THREE collections of vintage images on CD that will be drawn.  These images come from my personal collection and are in simple JPG format so you can easily use them for so many different arts and crafts projects.  They are terrific for mixed media, collage, art journaling, assemblage, scrapbooking, card making and more.  Each CD has over 3,000 vintage images similar to the sample images you see below.  These are public domain images that you are free to use, even in things you wish to sell.  The only limitation is that you can't reproduce the images or the collection either digitally or in print to resell because the collection is copyrighted to me.

How do you get your TRIPLE PLAY entry in the draw?  Here's what you do:

  2. Go to my Facebook art page:   www.facebook.com/JoannaGrantArt and "Like" the page.  Leave me a comment that you have done so and that will be your second chance to win. If you already follow my Facebook page, let me know and you'll be all set for the second chance to win a CD.
  3. Share this blog post or my Facebook page and let me know you've done so and you're in the draw for a third chance.
That's it.  The draw will be made on July 5 so check back on this blog then to see if you've won.  Thanks so much for entering and for all your support.

Another CD Giveaway - Enter Now !!!

Hello, my friends!  Well, it's the first of the month so you know what that means.  It's time for another of my CD giveaways.

All you need to do is click the Networked Blogs link directly to the right of this post and follow this blog.  That's it!  Comment here that you've done so and you will be in the draw.  If you have already done this with Networked Blogs, just indicate in your comment that you are already following my blog (thank you so much, by the way) and you'll be in the draw.  You can be entered a second time by sharing this post on your Facebook page, just write a comment with the share and you'll double your chances of winning!  And don't hesitate to enter if you've already won from me before, do try again!

The winner will get one of my vintage images collections CDs, which has OVER 3,000 beautiful Victorian and Edwardian style images in simple jpg format.  These are copyright free (public domain) images that you can use for all your artsy endeavors.  Because they are in simple jpg format, you can resize them or alter them easily in Photoshop or other editing programs.

You may use the images for your own artwork, including that which you intend to sell.  The only restriction is that you cannot reproduce the images for resale (in print or digitally) in any form because the collection itself is copyrighted by me.  If you use the images in work you intend to sell, I would appreciate it if you would cite your source.

Good luck everyone!  The draw will be held on May 3rd!  Below are just a few examples of the types of fantastic images in this collection.

Cheers!

Free Funky Images For Your Artful Pleasure!

Seems it is time, once again, to share some more free images that you can use in your artful endeavors.

This time, the images shown are scans from some of my original art from days gone by.  If you know me at all, you know I love to re-use my art images in new art projects, creating whole new one-of-a-kind pieces.  I am a firm believer that you don't have to reinvent the wheel every time you sit down to create something.  Make use of your original art over and over again by scanning it at high resolution and saving it to a directory for future use.  Believe me, if you start doing this you'll never be at a loss for an image when you need it.

Anyway, here are a few for you to have fun with.  Just right click on the image to save it to your own computer.  You are welcome to use these images in anything you create.  I only ask that if you make something that you sell or publish, that you cite credit for the use of the image.

As always, if you'd like to share images of what you make with these, I would love to see them!

Happy creating!
Joanna

ATC and ACEO Art

In the early to mid 2000s in the Ebay art selling world, a group of artists took the idea of ATCs (artist trading cards) and developed it further into an art form called ACEO.  ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals. ATCs were always meant only for trading/swapping, while ACEOs were for selling (or trading/swapping).  Both ATCs and ACEOs must have the same dimensions as a standard trading card (like hockey and baseball cards), which is 2.5" X 3.5".

I was fortunate to be involved with the Ebay ACEO group in its infancy and spent several years selling my ACEO art on Ebay with this fantastic collection of artists.

Because I had already been selling my miniature art magnets on Ebay for several years when the ACEO group formed, it was an easy transition to move from my business card sized magnets (2" X 3.5") to ACEO size.  I can remember many artists at that time who typically worked in much larger formats having real difficulty adjusting to producing original art on such a small scale.  I also remember feeling so very fortunate to already be comfortable creating art at that size.  It is not for everyone.

ACEOs are still very big business and I would really like to find more time to create them again.  I need a clone!

Anyway, I thought you might like to see some photos of a few of the ACEOs I produced in those days.  These samples are from 2005 and 2006 and are (were) all originals.  Again, each measures 2.5" X 3.5" (the size of a standard trading card).

I hope you enjoy this stroll down memory lane.  And just as I do with my current art, all of this older work was made with recycled and reclaimed materials.
